ELLIS SECURES SHAMIYA HARAM EXPANSION ORDER

ELLIS SECURES SHAMIYA HARAM EXPANSION ORDER

Emperor cable cleats from Ellis have been specified for installation in one of the biggest construction projects currently underway in Saudi Arabia. The Shamiya Haram, part of the holy mosque in the city of Mecca, is undergoing the biggest expansion in its history in order to place it in a central location and give it a new architectural dimension that will increase its capacity to 2.25million worshippers – four times its current capacity. Ellis’ cleats will be used to secure power cables throughout its 75,000sq. m. central utility complex (CUC), which when complete will serve the 1,423,271sq. m. Haram. “The size and complexity of this project needs to be seen to be believed,” said Ellis’ export director, Tony Conroy. “The expanded Shamiya Haram will be the size of a small town and as you’d expect of any project of this scale the technical infrastructure supporting it is extensive to say the very least.” The CUC at Shamiya Haram will feature a 24-chiller plant with a first phase capacity of 12,000 TR; a generator plant with 66MVA capacity (first phase); a grey water treatment plant; central waste handling plant; water tanks and pump room; administrative and service buildings; workshops, storage areas and three gatehouses. In addition, two extensive tunnel networks are being developed, one to enable worshippers to move easily around the Haram, the other to carry power. The order for Ellis’ Emperor cleats was secured by its Saudi Arabian distributor, Mena Arabia, who said a key part of securing the specification was the fact all nuts and bolts were supplied in stainless steel. Ellis’ Emperor cable cleats are available for both trefoil and single cable applications. All products in the range are manufactured in type 316L stainless steel, meaning they provide ultimate corrosion protection, even in the harshest of environments. The benefits of the Emperor cleats also extend to a patented design, which makes installation quick and easy, and an integral LSF zero halogen polymeric liner and base pad that protects and cushions cables during short circuit conditions. “Our ever-growing global network of distributors is an imperative part of our export success,” continued Tony Conroy. “They ensure the Ellis name is never far from the thoughts of specifiers, meaning there are very few major construction or electrical projects that our products are not in contention for – no matter where in the world they are located.” Ellis is the only manufacturer in the world to focus solely on cable cleats. Its products, all of which are short circuit and third party tested prior to being brought to market, are specified and installed around the globe.
