Situation

• This high-profile project sees London Power Tunnels creating a 32km electricity superhighway beneath London.
• Objective: Ensure safe and reliable electricity supply for Londoners.
• Challenge: Transmitting power via 6 sets of trefoil-arranged cables in some areas, requiring a new trefoil cable cleat.

Solution

• Collaboration: Direct partnership with UK Power Networks (UKPN).
• Product Development: Created a bespoke trefoil version of the Centaur cable saddle.
• Benefits: Enabled preferred trefoil arrangement of HV cables in the stretch of tunnel from New Cross to Finsbury Market and significantly reduced the number of supports needed.
• Conducted a short circuit product test in Prague. This involved recreating a tunnel-like structure and shipping the cable from the UK for testing.
