Scope of supply                 Bespoke short circuit protection structures

Ellis Project #                     1493

Situation

• Challenge: A customer using a mobile generator needed short circuit protection for cables from the generator to a location approximately 20m away.
• The solution needed to provide high short-circuit protection but also be easily transportable.

Solution

• Ellis developed a solution using Emperor cleats and bespoke steelwork.
• The steelwork was designed to be lightweight and easily assembled.
• Steelwork maintained structural integrity for cable restraint during a short circuit.
• Ellis’s technical team used 3D CAD modelling for design.
• Design was optimised using FEA software and hand calculations.
• Final design drawings were then used to manufacture the structures in-house.
