Situation

• A high-voltage cable runs across the fjord between Sotra and Drotningsvik in Bergen west. The high-voltage cable is located in the middle of the road of the new suspension bridge in Sotrasambandet – designed to improve transport links with a new four-lane road.
• Part of the project requires the cables to be installed in tunnels with very tight bend radii and limited access.
• The use of conventional cable cleats was not possible.

Solution

• Ellis had already developed the Cable Guide Clamp for an offshore project with similar build constraints.
• With minimal adaptations the Cable Guide Clamp was able to be installed, allowing the cables to pulled into position, through the low-friction surface of the clamps. Once in position the lid of the cleat is removed, a pad added and the cable is then securely clamped in position.
