Situation

Transport for London (Northern Line Extension) approached Ellis for cable hangers for a rail project, based on our standard cable hanger.
• Unique requirement: Non-standard mounting on a rail tunnel lining.
• COVID restrictions meant our usual site visit inspection was not possible.
• Customer provided photos and measurements.
• Ellis developed a tailored product, taking into consideration all possible unknown
factors.

 

Solution

• Ellis employed 3D CAD design for product creation.
• Strength verified via FEA and hand calculations.
• Manufacturing drawings released to Ellis’s production team.
• Prototypes quickly produced using a plasma cutter.
• Prototypes tested in Ellis’s on-site facility for strength validation.
• Successful trial fitment with customer.
