Fort Randall Dam Pipe Cable System Replacement Project

Date July 2017

Project Name Fort Randall Dam Pipe Cable System Replacement

Project Project Owner US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)

Main Contractor Interstate Electrical Contractors Inc.

Project Location Pickstown, South Dakota

Scope of supply Centaur Saddle, Centaur Anchor Clamp & Centaur Rollers

Situation

• US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) required an upgrade to the Fort Randall Dam cable systems so that they could accommodate the thermodynamic movement of the cables.
• USACE and Interstate Electrical Contractors Inc. had no prior experience of managing something like this so sought assistance from Ellis.
• Additional challenge: Limited space for installing 12 cables on the existing framework. Standard cable cleats were not an option.

Solution

• Ellis developed a custom version of the Centaur Cable Saddle with a 68-73mm cable range.
• Anchor Clamps were also designed to secure cables along the multiple bends and risers on the route.
• The Centaur Roller System was provided to aid installation.
